Our School Catholic Social Teaching Initiatives
At Holy Ghost, our Catholic values are at the core in everything we do. Each term we are focusing on one of the core Catholic Social Teaching values, where one class leads a whole school initiative to support those in need.
In the Autumn term our focus was on Human Dignity.
In the Spring 1 term our focus was on Solidarity.
In the Spring 2 term our focus is on Option of the Poor.
The Passage - school visit
On Wednesday 19th March 2025, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from The Passage, a charity dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in London. They led a whole school assembly, raising awareness about homelessness and asking our pupils to consider how they can contribute positively to our community. This visit emphasised the importance of compassion and service to others, linking with our Catholic Social Teaching focus: Option for the Poor.
Big Lent Walk
This term, our focus in Catholic Social Teaching has been the Preferential Option for the Poor. Through Scripture, we have learned that Jesus calls us to care for those most in need and to always put the poorest first.
Year 3 are taking their turn to lead this important mission by organising a fundraising walk for the Catholic Children's Society. They have worked hard to create banners and promote the event, encouraging everyone to take part. It has been truly inspiring to see classes coming together each week, walking with enthusiasm and increasing their laps to support this worthy cause.
This initiative not only helps raise money for those in need but also reminds us of the importance of compassion, generosity, and acting on our faith. We are so proud of Year 3 for their leadership and dedication in making a difference in the lives of others.
Senior Parishioners Coffee Morning
This term, our school CST focus this term is Solidarity. We have been teaching the
children to reflect on HOW they can show others they care and explaining that we are connected to people and places all over the world. God created us for one global family and wants us to support all of our brothers and sisters.
Advent Food Drive
One of the ways that we have prepared during this special season is the Advent Food Drive. Thank you to all families who donated much needed items to the Wandsworth Food Bank. We managed to fill Mrs Murphy’s car with nine heavy crates full of resources to help those in need during this festive period. This food drive was part of our work teaching the pupils on Catholic Social Teachings. Our focus this term was on ‘Human Dignity.’
Refugee Action
Year 5 had a talk from Refugee Action where they learnt all about what it means to be a refugee and the struggles they face.
It supports how we can help those in our wider community and treat everyone equally.
